Board Member, Sheena Apun, MD

 

Dr. Sheena Apun, a pediatrician in private practice since 2002, is a longtime advocate for children with developmental disabilities. With two sons on the spectrum, Dr. Apun’s commitment to helping young people with autism is evident in her work as a medical practitioner and her invaluable support of organizations like DDI.

 

Owner and CEO of a medical practice in Babylon, Dr. Apun received her undergraduate degree at NYU, her Medical Degree at the State University of New York - Downstate Medical Center, and she completed her residency training at Cornell-North Shore University Hospital.

 

She is a voluntary attending at Northwell University Hospital and Good Samaritan University Hospital, where she is also a member of the Peer Review Committee. Dr. Apun is a preceptor for Physician Assistant students at Touro College and Stony Brook University Hospital and for Medical Residents at Good Samaritan Hospital. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and Suffolk County Medical Society and serves as a mentor for college students who wish to pursue a career in medicine.

 

Dr. Apun resides in Merrick with her husband, Dr. Thomas Shim, also a pediatrician at Northwell Health. Their twin sons, Dylan and Noah, started their journey with DDI at the age of three, receiving early childhood services through the preschool program. Today, their continuum of care includes both educational and residential supports.
