Since founded by parents in 1961, Developmental Disabilities Institute (DDI) has remained devoted to a single mission: to help children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities experience their maximum fulfillment. While government funding and tuition fluctuate and do not cover all costs required to sustain and enrich DDI programs, donor support enables DDI to provide the services that our children and adults need and deserve to thrive.

MAKE A DONATION NOW                                                                                                                      Your gift may be a general donation to support DDI's greatest needs, made in memory or honor of a loved one, a DDI staff member who feels like family, or a special program. A card designed by DDI’s Main Street Masterpieces artists will be sent to acknowledge those you have honored with a tribute gift, informing them of your kindness. You may also designate your gift as monthly. All gifts are tax-deductible, and you will receive an acknowledgment letter for tax purposes.

LEGACY CIRCLE: PLANNED GIVING                                                                                                 With a planned gift, you can help DDI achieve and advance our mission for generations to come while leaving a lasting legacy that reflects your values and beliefs. Planned gifts are easier to arrange than most people realize. LEARN MORE.

Charitable bequests allow you to retain control over your assets and modify your estate plans while you are alive. DDI accepts bequests in various forms including cash, marketable securities, life insurance policies, and retirement policies. To make a bequest in your will, it must be drafted by your legal adviser either when establishing your will for the first time, or by adding a simple document called a codicil to your existing will.

A charitable gift annuity offers income and tax benefits while you are alive, allowing you to support current or future expenses while receiving retirement income. In a charitable gift annuity, you and DDI agree to exchange your irrevocable transfer of cash or securities for a fixed income payment to you for life. This gift provides an immediate charitable income tax deduction, and, upon completion, the annuity balance supports DDI's mission.

Become a Founding Member! DDI’s Planned Giving Circle plays a crucial role in maintaining and strengthening DDI's standing as a leading service provider for individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities on Long Island. We are pleased to recognize those who make a declaration of intent by December 31, 2025, to establish a DDI legacy gift in the form of a bequest or charitable annuity, as a Founding Member of DDI’s Planned Giving Circle.
