For the Schwegler family, the walk is far more than a fundraising event, it was a heartfelt way to give back to the organization that has been such an important part of their son Liam’s life. Diagnosed with autism at around two years old, Liam has been supported by DDI ever since, and his family credits the organization’s staff and coordinators for helping him reach important milestones.
Through care, guidance, and compassion, DDI has provided the foundation for Liam to continue growing toward his fullest potential. His parents describe him as a smart, curious, and courageous boy whose smile lights up every room. He loves being outdoors, splashing in the water, and playing with cars—activities that bring him joy as he continues to thrive.
Team Schwegler Hero’s began their fundraising by sharing Liam’s story on social media and reaching out to family, friends, and the wider community. The overwhelming response is a reflection of how deeply Liam, and his journey have touched those around him.
The family says raising funds for DDI means so much because of the difference the organization has made in their lives and in the lives of so many children with autism. Their success in this year’s walk is both a celebration of Liam’s progress and a powerful expression of gratitude for the people who have guided him along the way.
