DDI's Self-Advocacy Group

The self-advocacy group is open to individuals of all abilities attending DDI, and focuses on promoting empowerment for everyone involved. They meet weekly to discuss topics such as rights and responsibilities, speaking up for yourself, and making your own choices in life, whether they are big or small. Moreover, interactive activities and games are played to reinforce the topic being taught each week. Guest speakers also join the group on occasion, often including members of the Self-Advocacy Association of New York State (SANYS).

If you are interested in joining the group, it meets every Monday from 12 PM -1 PM. There is no commitment to continually attend, so joining a session is easy! Just log into Zoom on Mondays at 12 PM using the same link utilized for all virtual sessions. CLICK HERE for detailed instructions. If you need more information, please contact Kate Ratuszny at (631) 360-4629.

Tune in to learn how to make clear decisions, effectively express needs and wants, develop independence, and increase self-confidence and self-respect. Our vision is clear; Explore the world with us, not for us!
