What are Residential Services?

Located in Smithtown and Huntington, the Children’s Residential Program (CRP) provides individualized education and support to children with developmental disabilities between the ages of 5 to 21 whose needs exceed what can be addressed by traditional special education services.

Our nurturing, home-like residences serve between 6-11 children, depending on the campus location. Each residence is fully furnished and has a living room, dining room, and either single or double bedrooms. The bedrooms are decorated and tailored to the individual likes and preferences of the child and his or her caregiver.

Based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and positive behavioral support, the students receive highly specialized instruction that is designed to improve functioning and participation in certain activities and environments. Strategies and plans are put in place to fit the individual needs of each student.

Together, an interdisciplinary team of professional staff and the child’s caregiver(s) closely monitor growth and development with the objective of teaching the child to live a happy, independent life to the best of his or her natural ability.

The children enjoy the school’s recreational areas in the evenings and various activities and small group trips into the community occur almost daily.

Activities and Outings May Include:

  • Movies
  • Arts & Crafts
  • Socials
  • BBQs
  • Sporting Events
  • Horseback Riding
  • Baseball
  • Music Class
  • Recreation Parks
  • Amusement Parks
  • Shopping
  • Gardening
  • Yoga

The beautiful life of a child far exceeds any diagnosis. Each staff member of the Children’s Residential Program believes in this sentiment and is deeply committed to every child and every family. It is our hope that, together, we will form a meaningful bond that carries a trusted level of comfort and encouragement.
