Developmental Disabilities Institute, DDI, is one of the largest providers of care to children and adults with Autism, developmental disabilities and other special needs. DDI has been a part of Long Island for over 50 years serving over 1,500 children and adults with Autism, other developmental disabilities and special needs. DDI provides innovative and expansive services to our population through various educational settings, residential services, day habilitation programs and vocational services.

Special Education Teachers

Salary:        Bachelor's Degree $20.78-$27.99 per hour

                    Master's Degree $22.91-$39.05 per hour

Schedules: Monday-Friday 8am-3pm

Special Education Teachers in the Children’s Day Program are creative, energetic, career oriented teaching professionals who are motivated to educate individuals with developmental disabilities in an ungraded classroom setting. Teachers are offered on-going trainings and support provided by board certified behavior analysts and other qualified professionals to enhance and maximize career growth. Our school programs operate on a 12 month calendar and include 9 weeks of scheduled vacation during the year. This is a great opportunity to get valuable experience and knowledge working in a classroom setting and using ABA. BA or MA Certified Teacher-Must possess a Bachelor’s/Master's Degree and NYS teaching certification in Special Education. Interest in working with developmentally disabled individuals is required.


Teaching Assistants & Substitute Teaching Assistants

Salary:        $14.00- $16.80 per hour 

Schedules: Monday-Friday 8am-3pm

Children's day programs operate on a twelve month calendar and include nine weeks of scheduled vacation during the year. This is a great opportunity to get valuable experience and knowledge working in a classroom setting using ABA. High School/Equivalency diploma required. A minimum of 9 college credits within one year of hire is required. Experience working with children and/or individuals with developmental disabilities is preferable.
Good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Must maintain active status of the Level I certificate once attained*
*A Teaching Assistant NYS Level 1 (DDITA) must complete requirements outlined by NYSED and apply for Teaching Assistants & Substitute Teaching Assistants Level I certification within 6 months of employment and receive certification within 1 year after hire. Costs covered by program.
